Alî the Armor and the Christian
—————————————————–

During his Caliphate, ‘Alî b. Abî Tâlib – Allah be pleased with him – saw some armor of his with a Christian. He decided to take the matter up legally, so he took the dispute to Shurayh (the Judge). ‘Alî said, “This is my armor, and I have not sold it nor given it away.” Shurayh said to the Christian, “What have you to say about what the Amîr of the Believers claims?” The Christian replied, “It is my armor, although I do not regard the Amîr of the Believers to be a liar.” Shurayh then turned to ‘Alî, “O Amîr of the Believers, do you have any proof (of ownership)?” ‘Alî laughed and said, “Shurayh is correct, I have no proof.” So Shurayh judged that the armor was the Christian’s. The Christian took it and began to walk away but then returned. He proclaimed, “As for me, I testify that this is the judgment of the Prophets – the Amîr of the Believers himself takes me to his judge and the judge rules against him! I bear witness that there is no deity deserving worship but Allâh and I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allâh. By Allâh, the armor is yours o Amîr of the Believers. I followed the army when you were on your way to the Battle of Siffîn and the armor came out of your equipment.” ‘Alî said, “If you have accepted Islâm the armor is yours.” And then he put him on his horse. Al-Sha’bî (the reporter of this incident) said, “I was later informed by those who saw this man that he fought the Khawârij (alongside ‘Alî) at the battle of Nahrawân.”

The Secret Charity of Alî b Husayn
——————————————————-

It is reported that there used to be poor people in Al-Madînah who didn’t know where they were getting their food from. When ‘Alî b. Husayn passed away, they started missing what they used to be given at night.Abû Hamzah Al-Thumâlî narrates that ‘Alî b. Husayn used to carry bread on his back in the darkness of the night and follow the poor people (to give it to them). He used to say, “Charity in the darkness of the night extinguishes the Lords anger.”

‘Amr b. Thâbit reports that when ‘Alî b. Husayn died, they found marks on his back from the sacks of provisions he used to carry at night to the houses of the widows.

Shaybah b. Nu’âmah narrates that when ‘Alî b. Husayn died they found out that he used to provide for a hundred (poor) families.

The Tawbah of Zâdhân
————————————————-

He was one of the major scholars, he was born during the life of the Prophet – Allah’s peace and blessing be upon him…he was a reliable and truthful reporter…he reported numerous ahâdîth. The following are some of the Companions he reported from:

• ‘Umar
• ‘Alî
• Salmân (Al-Fârsî)
• Ibn Mas’ûd
• ‘Â`ishah
• Hudhayfah
• Jarîr Al-Bajalî
• Ibn ‘Umar
• Al-Barâ` b. ‘Âzib

Here is the story of how he repented. He narrates:

I was a boy with a nice voice and I was good at playing drums. I was once with a friend and we had nabîdh (a date infusion drink that can turn alcoholic) and I was singing for my friends. Ibn Mas’ûd was passing by and entered upon us; he struck the drink container we had and broke the drum. Then he said, “O boy! If your nice voice was to be heard reciting Qur`ân instead you would be the man!” And then he went on his way. I asked my friends, “Who was that?” They told me it was Ibn Mas’ûd. At that point tawbah was cast into my soul, and so I ran after him crying, I grabbed his garment and he turned to me and embraced me and cried. He said, “Welcome to him who Allah loves. Sit down.” He then went inside and brought out some dates for me.

Thereafter, Zâdhân became pious; Al-Dhahabî also reports that he was seen praying and it was as if he was a piece of wood or a tree in his stillness and humility in prayer.

He died in 82H, Allah have mercy on him.

Won’t you collect your Share?
——————————————————-

Abû Hurayrah – Allâh be pleased with him – once passed by the market in Medinah. He stopped at the market and said, “O people of the market, how incapable you are!” They said, “And how is that Abû Hurayrah?” He replied, “Over there the inheritance of Allâh’s Messegner – Allâh’s peace and blessings be upon him – is being distributed and you are here! Won’t you go and take your share?” “Where is it?” they asked. He replied, “In the Masjid.” So they hurried to the Masjid and Abû Hurayrah waited for them until they returned. When they came back, he said, “What’s the matter?” They replied, “Abû Hurayrah! We went to the Masjid but we didn’t see anything being distributed.” Abû Hurayrah asked them, “And you didn’t see anyone in the Masjid?” They replied, “Indeed we did; we saw people praying, others reciting Qur`ân and others studying the regulations of halâl and harâm.” So Abû Hurayrah said, “Woe to you! That is the inheritance of Muhammad – Allâh’s peace and blessings be upon him.”

Al-Hâfidh Al-Mundhirî said in Al-Targhîb wa Al-Tarhîb, “Reported by Al-Tabarâni in Al-Awsat with a hasan chain of narrators.” Also graded hasan by Shaykh Al-Albânî. See his Sahîh Al-Targhîb wa Al-Tarhîb Vol. 1 p19.

Giving Preference Over Themselves Even Though They Were In Need Of That
————————– ————————– ————————– —————————-
Abu Hurayrah said, “A man came to the Prophet and said, ‘O Allah’s Messenger! Poverty has struck me.’ The Prophet sent a messenger to his wives (to bring something for that man to eat) but they said that they had nothing.

“Then Allah’s Messenger said, ‘Who will invite this person or entertain him as a guest tonight; may Allah grant His mercy to him who does so.’ An Ansari man said, ‘I, O Allah’s Messenger!’ So he took him to his wife and said to her, ‘Entertain the guest of Allah’s Messenger generously.’ She said, ‘By Allah ! We have nothing except the meal for my children.’ He said, ‘Let your children sleep if they ask for supper. Then turn off the lamp and we go to bed tonight while hungry.’ She did what he asked her to do.”

“In the morning the Ansari went to Allah’s Messenger who said, ‘Allah wondered (favorably) or laughed at the action of so-and-so and his wife.’ Then Allah revealed, ‘And they give them preference over themselves even though they were in need of that.’ (Surah al-Hashr:9)”

In another narration for this Hadith, the Companion’s name was mentioned, it was Abu Talhah Al-Ansari, may Allah be pleased with him

Hospitality and Sharing How the Salaf Lived
————————–————————–——–
Muhammad b. Ziyâd said, “I met [some of] the Salaf. They would live in one building with their families. One of them might receive guests, and the cooking pot of another might be on the fire (with food being cooked). The host would take the pot to serve his guest, and the owner of the pot would find it had gone and would ask, “Who has taken the pot?” The host would reply, “We have taken it for our guest.” The owner would say, “May Allâh bless it for you,” or something similar. Baqîyah (one of the reporters) said, “Muhammad said, ‘And it was the same when they baked bread; and they had only a wall of reeds separating them in those days.’” Baqîyah added, “And I remember seeing such times with Muhammad b. Ziyâd and his friends.””

Al-Bukhârî, Al-Adab Al-Mufrad. Shaykh Al-Albânî (Sahîh Al-Adab Al-Mufrad p268) said this narration’s chain of narration is sahîh.

The Call of Bilâl and the Tears of Al Shâm
——————————————————-
It is reported that Bilâl – Allâh be pleased with him – never used to call the adhân for anyone after the death of Allâh’s Messenger – Allâh’s peace and blessing be upon him. He wanted to go for al-jihâd but Abû Bakr didn’t want him to go. So Bilâl said, “If you freed me [when I was a slave] for Allâh’s pleasure, then let me go.” So he went to Al-Shâm. When ‘Umar arrived in Al-Jâbiyah [during his Caliphate], the Muslims requested him to ask Bilâl to do the adhân for them, so ‘Umar asked him. He called the adhân one day, and never were as many people heard crying as on that day, as they remembered the Prophet – Allâh’s peace and blessing be upon him.

It is said that the adhân of the people of Al-Shâm was taken from this adhân.

Ponder over this Brothers and Sisters and ask yourself when will I start learning and implementing the Deen of Allah? Wake up ‘O Slave of Allah and begin to understand Islam and its magnificent virtues before a test befalls you and you crumble and are defeated by the accursed shaytan and left to be on your own without a savior or a guide.

Knowledge Saves ‘Abdul Qaadir
————————–—————–
I was once in worship when I saw a magnificent throne with a light in it. The light said: O ‘Abdul Qaadir, I am your lord and I have made permissible for you what I have prohibited for others.

I said: “Are you Allaah – other than whom there is no other deity?! Away with you O enemy of Allaah!”

So the throne crumbled and the light became darkness and said: “O ‘Abdul Qaadir, you have escaped from me because of your understanding of the religion and your knowledge of your status. Indeed I have corrupted seventy men in this way.”

He [‘Abdul Qaadir] was later asked: ‘How did you know it was a Shaytaan?”

He responded: “He said to me; ‘I have made permissible for you what I have prohibited for others.’ And I knew that Muhammad’s – صلى الله عليه وسلم – legislation does not change and cannot be abrogated, and because he was able to say; ‘I am your lord.’ but was not able to say; ‘I am Allaah – other then whom there is no other deity.”

Shed some light on this Brothers and Sisters and try to reflect on this narration as it is a very important lession for us to learn from. Never believe you are free of it until you are given glad tidings and always remember that it is Allah who brings about light and Allah is the one who takes away that light.

I Entered The Hellfire Because Of Three
————————–————————–-
It was narrated that one of the students of al Fudayl ibn ‘Iyaad was close to passing away, so al Fudayl entered upon him, he sat by his head and started reading Surat Yaaseen.

His student said: “My teacher, do not read it.”

So he remained silent. He then tried to get him to say the Shahaadah, he said: “Say Laa Ilaaha ila Allaah.”

He said: “I will not say it because I am free from it.” He died upon that.

Al Fudayl returned to his house, he cried for forty days, not leaving his home. He saw his student in a dream being dragged into the Hell fire, he said to him; “With what did Allaah remove the know-how from you, while you were amongst my most knowledgeable students?”

He responded: “With three things;

  • The first: Nameemah. (Slander)
  • The second: Jealousy.
  • The third: I had an illness, so I went to a doctor and asked him about it. He told me that I must drink a cup of alcohol once a year, if I do not the illness would remain with me, so I used to drink it.”
